Annual Charity Walk 2006
Congratulations are in order to everyone who participated in this year's Walk!
Five hundred and seventy one of you signed up for the sightseeing trip to Maghull -
almost exactly the same number as in 2005 - and we think that you probably raised about the same amount of money. Counting up the figures you gave on the sponsorship forms comes to just under £44,000......but around 15% of you didn't tell us how much you expected to raise! So, using an average, if we add 15% to £44,000 we get: £50,600
So we can estimate that all of your Charities, and Good Causes, have benefitted by around FIFTY THOUSAND POUNDS
Well done, everyone!
Our roving cameraman roved up and down the Canal during the Walk, snapping away, and he's been in his dark room developing the plates. Now they are dry, we've put a selection of the best in a new Picture Gallery. Click to go there!
Here are a few we prepared earlier...

Firstly, we have a few of the Intrepid Stewards, out with the dawn, or about half past eight, setting everything up, distracted by a wonderful suggestion of bacon barms wafting across from the kitchens of the Heaton's Bridge Inn. Many thanks to Joanne and her team for turning out to feed the hungry chaps.

There are various jokes about "How many Rotarians does it take to put up a tent?" But as I want a peaceful life, I won't start down that road! Here instead is trusty Neil, head of the Incident Management Team (he's the one with a Land Rover, who likes going up and down all sorts of roads to various inaccessible places) ready to leap into action at the first hint of an Incident which might need Managing.

But all was well, and the Walkers walked, and mostly reached the Finish before the rain.

Unfortunately, our Sweeper, who checks to see everyone is off course - no, I didn't mean quite that - to see that everyone is accounted for - being last would have undoubtedly ended up wettest. Still, he was sponsored, too, for our own Rotary Charities, so it was all in a good cause! Brings a whole new meaning to 'money laundering' though...

How Does The Walk Work?
Simple!
- You decide which Charity you want to support.
- You ask all your friends and colleagues to sponsor you.
- You register for the Walk with us.
- You Walk!
- You collect all the money from your sponsors.
- You give all the money you have collected to your chosen Charity - directly!
ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of everything you collect goes straight from you to your
choice of Charity. All of the costs of organising the Walk are met from Entry Fees and money separately raised for the purpose by Southport Rotary Club. If there is anything
left over, the surplus will be donated to our own Rotary Charities. To find out more about Rotary, check out our Links!
