Disasters occur in all shapes and forms, whether it is catastrophic floods in Cumbria,
earthquakes in China or Haiti, or tsunamis in the Indian Ocean. Whatever the cause,
one of the most important factors for the people concerned is to know that, out there,
are individuals, groups and agencies who know, and understand, the problems, and
One of the most effective ways in which help can be channelled is through Rotary.
Rotary is an international organisation; we have more than a million members spread
around the world, and wherever a disaster strikes there is more than likely a local
Rotary group which can start to focus relief efforts.
●The Rotary Foundation is a financial organisation set up to provide and manage
humanitarian projects, and Southport Rotary Club enthusiastically supports our Foundation’s
activities. For more information, why not click here to visit their website?
●ShelterBox started as a Millennium project of the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard
in Cornwall, and has since become one of the most effective means of delivering aid
to disaster areas quickly. For more information go to our ShelterBox Latest page.
And then, of course, there are our own efforts. Whether we give support as part of
our Community or International efforts, or whether we hold special fundraising events,
Southport Rotary Club helps to channel much needed support. And the great thing is
that none of the money ‘leaks’ on the way!
