Each year since 2002, Southport Rotary Club has organised an annual Charity Walk.
The first seven of these followed the paths along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal,

Whatever the route, the walk is designed to provide an event for individuals and groups to raise money through sponsorships for their favourite charity or good cause. In the first eight years, more than quarter of a million pounds has been raised by more than three thousand walkers for more than a hundred good causes. Brilliant!

Many of those who walked in 2009 were new to the Annual Charity Walk, and were very
happy that the new route was in the town. On the other hand, a number of walkers
preferred the previous walk, along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Obviously, there
isn’t any sort of one-
